Happy New Year!

Whilst January signals the start of a new year, for us at HQ it is also one of our busiest months as we gear up for Global 2020 and the Directors Summit. We are super excited to have many of you join us in Redwood City 

This years’ Global Conference is extra special. It marks 10 years from when Derek Andersen hosted the first Startup Grind event in February 2010. From that first Silicon Valley Chapter, we now have over 600 Chapters in 125 countries. We’ve come a long way!

Congratulations to Chris Jonnaou (Melbourne Chapter) for being selected as January’s Director of the Month. Chris is one of our longest standing Chapter Directors, having hosted his very first fireside chat event in August 2012 ( check out the video here!)! Always crushing it mate! Congratulations!

#2020YearPlan

Our Official Year Plan for 2020 has now been announced. You can view the full 2020 Year Plan here. Some exciting items to highlight include Mentorship Month in April Presented by AWS, SGPitchBattles now being rolled out to all Chapters, #SGWomen now being hosted in June (it gives us a month between Mentorship month and #SGWomen month to allow for more marketing time, to ensure it is not diluted) and a Google for Startups themed month in November.

If your name is not on the list, please email Ford ( ford@startupgrind.com). Directors get a special conference badge, but you need to be registered to receive it. 

Bunk beds are already sold out and as happened this year, we expect the subsidised hotel accommodation to sell out soon, so don’t leave it too late to register!

We are expecting over 200 directors to come together to celebrate being part of this incredible family and hear from some incredible speakers. If you haven’t already seen the line up, check it out here. The conference is FREE to attend for all chapter directors and co-directors.

Following the 2 day conference, we have the legendary Directors Summit where we spend 2 full days as a family together and learn from each other, but also award each other for all the hard work done throughout the year.

What should I pack?

Attire is casual, dress comfortably. Bring a light jacket and an umbrella if you have one. The average temperatures in this area are High 15C/62F, Low 8C/40F during February. This year, we will only be producing 1 official Startup Grind T-shirt. Come with a great attitude, lots of questions, a desire to learn and meet some of the incredible Startup Grind community from around the world!

What meals are included?

Please cater for your own Breakfast in the morning. We will have an exclusive Directors Sandwich Lunch on Tuesday, 11th February (please refer to the Agenda). Some dinners may be catered for, see Agenda (will be updating as we finalize details).

#SGGlobalLiveStream

We’ve had many requests from Directors unable to join us in person at Global asking how they can still be a part of Global. We are delighted to announce that we’ll be live streaming the Global Conference. In previous years, some Directors have taken this as an opportunity to host a Watch Party Event. This year we are encouraging you to make it an “Official” published event. Please remember to use the hashtag #SGGlobalLiveStream in your title. Official Art Asset Templates are available in Google Slides.

This month we are hosting special Office Hours, dedicated to the Global Conference and Directors Summit. We invite you to join one of the calls to learn more about it, even if there is a small possibility that you will be attending. 

We plan on having some Directors share their stories from having attended a Global / Directors Summit. If you have an interesting story to share of your experience at Global or Directors Summit, please send an email to ford@startupgrind.com so we can highlight you on one of the calls.
